And more Denim Quilts from Magpie Quilts

Having large piles of blue jeans on hand for quilt making or other items means boxes and bins taking up space. Used clothing requires deconstruction and while I looked for faded denim jeans and waited for my customer to get back to me with an ok for her queen quilt, I started the task of cutting everything apart.
I cut the jean legs from the tops right at the crotch level, leaving the tops intact for making bags. I then cut the seams off and I have a few ideas for those pieces that will show up over the next ...

More Jean Circle Quilts from Magpie Quilts

Denim - it goes with everything and although the quilts made from them are heavier than a normal quilt - they will wear forever!

This lap size quilt was made early in 2024 and the customer who bought it loved it. She then messaged me to ask if I could make another one, this time in a Queen size.
So I tapped into my online friend network to find the denim I needed as that first quilt used up all the denim I had on had. I ended up with a pile of a variety of colors. My customer then requested that ...

Jean Circle Quilt from Magpie Quilts

This pattern is a fav of mine and as my pile of worn out jeans piled up, I put aside a layer cake bundle (10' squares from the same fabric line) to use as the centers.

There's a bunch of tutorials and patterns online, but I used the pattern Forever in Blue Jeans by Fons and Porter available at Quilting  Daily. I often get asked about the dimensions for this quilt, but I encourage quilters to purchase the pattern from the designer.
I decided to sew the cotton fabric, batting and jeans together with an X before sewing the ...

Denim Quilt Finish from Podunk Pretties

Mr. Podunk's camping quilt is finished.  He's one happy camper!  The denim and flannel in this quilt were cut from old jeans and flannel shirts collected over the last 2 to 3 years.  A big thank you to the extended family who donated old clothing destined for the trash or thrift shops.

This girl is heavy and should keep him nice and warm this winter on his hunting trips.  The squares were cut at five inches so they finish in the quilt at 4.5 inches.  The quilt measures about 67 x 90.

When cutting the jeans I ...

New Camping Quilt and Shipping Quilts from Podunk Pretties

The Halloween quilts and pillows are on their way to the grandkids.  Finding a box large enough was impossible.  So I had to split it up into two boxes.  The four quilts and three pillows were stuffed into large vacuum bags and I used the vacuum cleaner to suck out the air.  Of course granny added a few fall themed treats and goodies.

Now it's time to start on Mr. Podunk's camping quilt using old blue jeans and men's shirts.  I deboned and cut up the jeans and shirts back in August so this should go together ...

Forever In Blue Jeans from Podunk Pretties

Done, Finished, Completed, Finally! Shew, cutting up the blue jeans and flannel took much longer than expected.  The song Forever in Blue Jeans kept rolling through my head as I cut and cut and cut.  Yes, Forever working with blue jeans.

Why so long?  Because the five inch die pooped out on me.   It's my fault.  Silly me tried to cut four layers of jeans at one time.  The pressure bent the top blade of the square causing it to no longer cut.  I could buy a new die but it would take about a week for it to ...
